Built in red sandstone employing the typical ornate Rajput architectural style, it was initially conceived as the summer residence of the Jodhpur Majarajahs. The lake itself, artificially created in the 13th century as a water reservoir that supplied drinking water to the city - now complements the lush green lawns and staggered, terraced gardens of the property. There are 10 palace suites, each different but similar in that they are spacious, well appointed, and brimming with charm. The wide patios or little ornate windows, the antique furnishings, the definition of separate spaces and niches with low arches, all echo the splendour of a rich and luxurious past and make for a stay of indulgent fantasy in the present.
